Samantha Malk, mezzo soprano


Joining the stage from the far corners and back trails of her native South Africa, mezzo-soprano Samantha Malk is an artist devoted to the love of her craft. 

After immigrating with her family to the United States, she began carving out her career specializing in recital and concert repertoire.  

Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall, Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood Music Center, Snape Maltings Concert Hall at Aldeburgh Festival, Concertgebouw Brugge and Mandel Hall at the University of Chicago list a few of her solo recital venues. 

Amongst her collaborations, she has performed with the Mark Morris Dance Group, the Exponential Ensemble, the International Contemporary Ensemble, and the Brooklyn Art Song Society.  Samantha is a 2015 Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition Finalist.

On the operatic stage, Samantha has portrayed the roles of Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro as well as Mercedes in Bizet’s Carmen. 

Samantha is an alumna of Tanglewood Music Center, Steans Music Institute at Ravinia Music Festival, Acadèmie Musicale de Villecroze and Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme at Aldeburgh Festival.

Her education was completed in the United States where she holds a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from Indiana University and a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music.

Besides her dedication to the art of music making, Samantha is committed to developing and inspiring singers.

She is on the voice faculty at Brooklyn College and is a voice consultant for the young artist program at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv.  Samantha joined the voice faculty of the International Vocal Arts Institute in Israel and Summer Opera Tel Aviv in 2014.

She maintains a private voice studio with singers from around the world.  

In 2018, Samantha will join the faculty of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as the Deputy Head of Vocal Studies.
